Windows Support
AgWare has been testing Windows 10 since it released on July 29, and we’re happy to announce that we have found no major compatibility issues with AgWare DataLog and AgWare ClickForms. We found one minor issue with the folder tree spacing that will be fixed in a future release.

Final DataLog release for Windows XP
DataLog 4.1 will be the last fully supported version for XP, and we will not be testing future UAAR versions on XP. If you have any questions regarding discontinued XP support, please don’t hesitate to let us know. AgWare will continue to support Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10.

New DataLog Version
DataLog 4.1.5 is now available for download on our website. This version fixes how we load the configuration defaults. If you upgrade from a 3. software verison directly to 4.1.5, no action is required to fix the improvement configuration defaults. However, if you upgrade from a 4. software version to 4.1.5, you will need to go into the improvement input methods and reset how your effective age is calculated (see screenshot below). To access the improvement input methods screen, open a sale, go to the improvements analysis section, click the improvement options button, and choose input method. Once the input method window appears choose your desired method and click OK. You will only need to do this once as the program will remember your setting. We apologize for any inconvenience this bug has caused.

Annual Meeting and Training Class
AgWare will be holding its annual user’s meeting this year in San Antonio, Texas at the Hyatt Hill Country Resort in conjunction with the ASFMRA National Meeting. The annual meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the RW Pavilion from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. After our user’s meeting the ASFMRA meeting kicks off with the “Welcome to Texas Dinner” at the National Shooting Complex from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. If you have never been to an ASFMRA chapter welcome dinner they are a great time and we highly recommend attending. There will be buses from the hotel to the dinner for those interested. To register for the user’s meeting, please email AgWare and let us know the names of all attendees in your party. To register for the ASFMRA chapter dinner you need to add the Welcome Dinner option to your Agri-Nomics Registration.

AgWare will also be offering a free “Back to the Basics” seven hour training course at the ASFMRA National Meeting in San Antonio. This course will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2015 from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm in the Uvalde AB room. Back to Basics is a beginner-level course that provides the participant with introductory concepts, basic skills experiences, and the opportunity to build confidence in using AgWare agricultural appraisal software to create UAAR format reports. Each user needs to bring their laptop to the course with AgWare DataLog and AgWare ClickForms installed. ASFMRA is handling all registration for the Back to Basics class. Please visit the ASFMRA website to register for the class, or for more information on the Agri-Nomics meeting.

December 22, 2014 Newsletter

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We hope you had a great 2014 and are looking forward to an even better 2015.

Some notes to wrap 2014:

DataLog Release Candidate
A new release candidate version of DataLog is ready for final testing. This version has passed all of our internal testing. However, due to the large number of internal changes we want to start by upgrading a limited number of users. If you are interested in being one of the first to update please e-mail [email protected] and we will provide you with the download link. This release contains a number of small fixes and performance enhancements. The major changes are related to changing our internal tools. This version lays the groundwork for future enhancements.

Welcome to Scott Stephenson
AgWare’s newest employee started December 1st. His name is Scott Stephenson and he joins our team from his home office in Connecticut. Scott brings 20+ years of experience as a commercial software engineer, including more than a decade in an industry-leading Fortune 50 corporation. Scott will be working on AgWare’s Farm Management Accounting Program. However, we already have some shared code between the Appraisal and Management software and we expect that to increase. With the addition of Scott we now have an employee in every time zone. Welcome on board Scott!

AgWare Training Opportunities
Over the past few months we have had a number of requests for a “Back to the Basics” training. The idea is to have a 7 hour course that reviews the basics of our software. The course is split between DataLog and ClickFORMS with a focus on how automatic calculations flow through the software from the sales analysis all the way to the approaches. Since we will use new features of the software as we complete the case study, we expect the course to be useful for new and experienced users alike.
Our first location is set for March 3rd at the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. This will be held during the Missouri ASFMRA State Chapter meeting. Registration details are still being finalized. If you want to be notified when registration is open please e-mail [email protected] We will also conduct this training in San Antonio in conjunction with the ASFMRA National Meeting. Are you part of a state chapter or company that would be interesting in this type of training? If so contact us at [email protected] We would love to offer the course at a few different locations across the country.

Enterprise Users – Automatically GeoCode Existing Sales
If you are an Enterprise user and you have entered Section/Township/Range on your old sales, we can update your database and automatically set longitude and latitude for those sales. We now have a script that can be run against your enterprise Database to set the location based on the input Section/Township/Range. If you would like this process run on your database please have your administrator contact us. At this time the process will only work for Enterprise users. Standard and Small Business users – if you would like to see this process as well please let us know and we will consider it for a future release.

Annual Users Meeting
We want to thank all of you who were able to make our Annual User Meeting a great success. We had one of our largest groups, consisting of enterprise users, small business users, and standard users. We are grateful to get the perspective of each category of our user base. The three highest priority items from the meeting were:

  1. Internal Upgrades: From time to time all software needs to update internal tools.  In AgWare’s case we have our development tool we use to build ClickFORMS and DataLog, as well as some internal software we built to fill our own needs.  We are currently in the process of updating all of these to use current software.  Very little of this will result in immediate changes that you will see in the software.  Still, it is important for you to know that we are doing the work to make sure the AgWare software stays relevant and current with all of the changes to computers today. The last time we updated our tools was 2007.  It does not feel very long to us, but that was 7 years ago!  Windows Vista had just been released.  The IPad would not even exist for another 3 years.  Upgrading our tools will ensure we keep compatible with new versions of Microsoft Windows and Office and even gives us a few options for working with tablets.
These internal upgrades will also create a better future for ClickForms and DataLog as we will be able to have more variety in our upgrades and enhancements.
  2. Mapping Future: We will continue to work on improving the mapping feature in DataLog and ClickFORMS.  The first two items we will be addressing are:
Creating maps directly in ClickFORMS.  Once sales are imported into a ClickFORMS report we should be able to create a sales overview map directly in ClickFORMS.
Tracking Property Boundaries.  Currently DataLog only allows you to track a single point for a property.  This needs to be enhanced to allow the property boundary to be drawn and saved.
  3. Tablets: We continue to see tablet use expanding.  To address this we are starting to work on a read only sales viewer for the IPad.  Our app will use a technology called Application Tethering to allow you to copy sales from your PC to the IPad where they can be viewed in the field.  While not a complete solution this will give us some experience in IPad development, deployment, and support.  A read only application will also give us the chance to get some feedback on how these devices are actually being used in the field.
From talking to users the IPad seems to be the device used by the majority of users.  The tools we are using will also allow us to support Android.  However, at the current time we have no plans to release an Android version.  We are concerned that it will be too hard to support both platforms from the start.  Windows 8 Tablets (Pro not RT), can run the full version of DataLog and ClickFORMS and are currently supported.

Annual Meeting Updates and Discussion Items
The above link will take you to an overview of the items that were enhanced over this last maintenance period and all the items discussed at the Annual Meeting. If there are any questions please call us at 605.787.7871 or email us at [email protected]
Windows XP/Vista
Are you still using Windows XP or Vista?  If you are please e-mail us.  We will be keeping Windows XP support through the end of 2014.  However, we are considering dropping support for Windows XP and Vista starting in 2015.  We need to get an idea of how many old computers are still being used before we make that decision.  When we drop support for Windows XP it will apply to new releases only, we will continue to support old versions of the AgWare software on Windows XP.

Training Videos
To access the online training videos go to the AgWare website,, click on help near the upper right hand corner of the page, then click user manual on the left hand side of the screen. This will take you to the online user manual for AgWare. You should see a menu item on the left side that says Video CataLog. Here you will find a list of all available tutorial videos we currently have. When you click on a video title, it will also display the video script below the video. AgWare is frequently adding and updating the videos offered, and always accepts and welcomes ideas for new videos.

Setting Preferences for Photo Cells
In ClickFORMS, users now have the ability to choose whether to auto frame photo and exhibit cells. To change this setting, click on the Eaglehead button, click preferences, and click operation. The last two items on this screen are check boxes to auto frame the photo and exhibit cells. This will only apply to new photo pages and exhibit forms added to ClickFORMS; it will not affect old reports, or forms already in your current report unless you replace the photo or exhibit in those cells.

Things continue to be busy here at AgWare. It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Appraisers seem to be plenty busy as well. Hopefully everyone can find the time to enjoy a turkey dinner.

User Meeting Update
Thank you to everyone who attended, or sent in suggestions for the Annual User Meeting this year. We had a good discussion about what AgWare needs in order to move ClickFORMS and Datalog to the next level. Notes from the discussion are available for download.
New Team Member
In August, AgWare welcomed new team member Taylor Newkirk. Taylor will be helping with customer management, customer support, and testing AgWare software. She is working remotely from Austin, Texas. That means we will still have someone answering phones during Midwest blizzards!
